Fostering Education and Well-being for Refugees and Host Communities through Early Childhood Development and Parental Engagement
Makasi Rescue Foundation has established an early childhood development center in Najjanakumbi, dedicated to fostering early learning for refugees and vulnerable host communities. Currently, 202 pupils are enrolled at Makasi Nursery and Primary, with 36 pupils successfully transitioning to primary education in various schools within KCCA.
Early Learning and Nutrition
166 pupils are engaged in early learning, play, and simulation activities, receiving dietary meals at the center.
Parental Engagement
Utilizing the second-generation approach, parents and caregivers are actively involved in livelihood activities, including vocational skills training, access to capital support, and SRHR services.
Guardian Training
70 guardians have been trained in early childhood development and nurturing practices, enhancing care for children in their households.
Community Engagement
Formation of Committees
The establishment of the Centre Management Committee (CMC) and Parents Teachers Association (PTA) comprising 9 members each has strengthened the management of the ECD center. These committees oversee operations and link the center to the community.
Parents Saving Group
A USLA group was formed among guardians and parents at the ECD center to promote financial stability through savings and access to loans. Members have been trained in the USLA methodology and are actively saving towards their goals.
